A romantic change of pace for director Andrew Lau, A Beautiful Life tells the story of an honest cop who falls for a damaged woman recently spurned by an affair with a married man. She eventually runs off with most of his life savings, but returns determined to reclaim their love only to find the cop now suffering from dementia. At times corny, but ultimately moving thanks to strong performances from the cast and gorgeously expressive cinematography from Lau, who shoots his own films.
